As we are entering the Winter Season this is the time, we need to start really taking care of our delicate skin. Keeping our skin healthy and moist can help from the harsh and abrasive cold season. Hands up where, we have all had moments where we have had a late night and the last thing you want to do is take off your make up or even worse slept in your make up. Surely, I cannot be the only one? The truth is having a good skincare regime can deter a plethora of skincare issues in the future and taking care of your skin is worth paying attention to if you want great skin or that 24/7 glow. In the long run having a good skincare routine will prevent issues such as wrinkles, fine lines and serious skin issues.
At Skin Ame we believe in the importance of a consistent skincare routine. Here are 4 reasons why you should have a skincare regime that you stick to
3. You feel better about yourself when your skin looks better. As you look fresher faced yourself confident will increase. Even to the point you leave the make up bag at home!
4. Determining and understanding your skin type will help you figure out what works best for your skin. If you have oily skin, you will be aware of what types of food to eat and what triggers certain skin conditions such as Acne and Psoriasis. Make sure to use carrier oils as they as less greasy yet work to moisturize the skin perfectly.

African Black Soap is a deep cleansing natural soap for all skin types. It works for those with combination, oily, dry and even sensitive skin types after some time.
Although this soap is praised by many others and find it moisturizing, it has been reported to be drying. Our African Black Soap is a natural handmade soap, therefore proportions and types of ingredients may vary by batch. It is created with plantain skin, leaves, cocoa pods, jojoba oil, palm kernel oil and more. Due to this, each batches variation could work for one person and not the other.
When first use, your skin will feels dry and tight.
This will last for a week or less and is caused by the soap drawing out impurities and excess oils. After a few days the PH levels of the skin will balance out (which is why it is believed to be good for both dry and oily skin.)
The soap can also cause a tingling, sometimes burning sensation leading to red skin. This also seems to eventually resolve, but before using African black soap on the face, do a patch test on another part of the body, like the inside of the elbow.
African black soap is great for oily and acne prone skin. It’s efficient for deep pore cleansing because of its natural exfoliating qualities. For some oily skin types it seems to keep the skin hydrated without increasing oil.
Even if you have oily skin you should moisturize afterwards with a non-comedogenic lotion or oil like our sweet almond oil (found here) and virgin coconut oil.
Care & Storage of Black Soap
I’ve read complaints about African black soap not lasting very long. If this is the case for you, you’re not storing it properly. African black soap contains a high amount of glycerin, which absorbs moisture from the air and helps retain moisture on the skin, leaving it supple and soft. For this reason the soap can soften and start to slowly disintegrate when left exposed.
Since black soap absorbs water, don’t let it sit in a puddle after use. Keep it dry to keep it from dissolving. Place the bar on a wooden soap dish with slats to allow the soap to drain.
As a skincare enthusiast, I've been quite obsessed with skincare products and how or if they work for my particular skin type. Its important to know if that expensive moisturizer with SPF is actually working or if you put it on after or before your serum. Knowing how to apply skincare products is so important in order for your skin to flourish.
Below you will find our recommended steps for skin product application for both day & evening.
1 ) C L E A N S E
2 ) T O N E R
3 ) S E R U M
4 ) M O l S T U R l Z E R
MOISTURE. MOISTURE. MOISTURE. Moisturize!! Its so so important that you consistently give your skin hydration to prevent early winkles in our pretty little skin. During the day , opt for a moisturizer with SPF so you can skip what would otherwise be Step 5 in our routine. During the evening, we recommend a dab of our lightweight, Sweet Almond Oil. Perfect for skin hydration and clears dark circles and lightens acne scars in a week or so. l put a bit on my edges at night too (edges always, always need extra TLC)
Pro Tip: Products go from thinnest to thickest application with our steps above.
Always start your skincare routine after brushing and right before slumber.

Dry skin is a problem we all may have that can quite possibly be frustrating if you do not know how to get rid of it. We have a solution to your problem and it is one word: EXFOLIATE!
That's right. Exfoliate. Exfoliation is so important in keeping your skin healthy, clear and moisturized. As the days go by, your skin is not always good at shedding its dead skin cells as well as it use to when you were younger (even just 1 week younger!). Physical exfoliants such as body scrubs are the perfect way to reveal your fresh, healthy skin underneath.
After exfoliating, your steps to moisturize are just as crucial. Follow up after your body scrub session with a heavy body butter and oil sealant to lock in all the work you just put in as well as the moisture and new skin you've scrubbed to reveal.
Exfoliate 3x a week.
Our 'Raw Shea Butter' and 'Sweet Almond Oil' are perfect combination products to use after a body scrub.
Body Scrub Recommendations
Salt is a great choice when you desire an overall body exfoliation, eliminating the rough, dry patches of dead skin.
If you’re looking to exfoliate your face, you’ll want to use something finer than salt, as it can be a little too abrasive. Fine sugar is the perfect, gentle alternative for a physical exfoliant for your face..
Pictured below, l purchased the Shea Butter Exfoliating Body Scrub for very dry skin. This is my holy grail all season round! It reveals softer, glowing skin after application with a tough sponge (or honestly even your good ol' hands.) Its made of exfoliating salt grains and organic sugar which in then results in an oil-based scrub with the perfect scent. It it noted that the shea butter used in this product comes from my homeland and where SkinByAme products are handmade, Ghana! The sponge I use daily and for my sugar scrub bath days is phenomenal. Pictured above, it is a Body Polisher (Made in Taiwan) that exfoliates and smoothes the skin. It is made with recycled polyester and I prefer this sponge because it is tougher and better for the skin rather than a rag or a soft sponge that just leaves soap on the surface of your skin. It is machine washable but I change mine every 3 months or so because it does lose it dullness after some time. Body Scrub Priced originally at $20, currently $10... Body Polisher $8, in store or online at thebodyshop.com
Below are 3 other salt and sugar body scrub products/companies , personally recommended by the Owner of SkinByAme Natural Skincare.
No matter how you choose to exfoliate your skin, make sure it’s a part of your routine!
